The Rockies added another arm to the franchise to close the first day of the 2018 MLB draft on Monday, selecting Texas A&M right-hander Mitchell Kilkenny with the No. 76 overall pick.
The 6-foot-4, 195-pound Aggies junior was 8-5 with a 3.34 ERA for Texas A&M this season in 97 total innings. His is a product of Houston Christian High School (Houston, Texas).
“He’s got a tall, rangy body, the arm works good and he’s got solid stuff — he was at 94 to 95 (mph) earlier in the year,” said Rockies’ vice president of scouting Bill Schmidt, who added he believes Kilkenny has the potential to be a major league starter.
Prior to drafting Kilkenny, Colorado took Ryan Rolison in the first round at No. 20 and then high school first baseman Grant Lavigne with the No. 42 overall pick.
