Steve Reinprecht, who won the 2001 Stanley Cup with the Avalanche, is back in Denver and will begin serving as a volunteer assistant coach for the DU Pioneers, new head coach David Carle announced Friday.

Reinprecht, 42, was an All-American at Wisconsin before beginning an 18-year professional career, including 11 seasons in the NHL. He played last season in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL), his sixth year in the German league following a 663-game NHL career.

“I am excited to be at DU and join David Carle’s staff,” Reinprecht said in a release. “I have known for a long time that when my playing career was finished, I wanted to be a college coach. The chance to join this staff is a tremendous honor and I am excited to help the Pioneers continue their rich tradition.”

Reinprecht will assist with skill development, game preparation and faceoffs.
