Trevor Story named Rockies’ selection for 2018 Hustle and Heart Award; shortstop now a finalist for overall winner

This season, Story — who recently went deep in his first all-star appearance — is hitting .293 with 20 home runs and 68 RBIs

was named the Rockies’ selection for the 2018 Hustle and Heart Award on Tuesday morning, an honor bestowed on players “who demonstrate a passion for the game of baseball and best embody the values, spirit and traditions of the game.”

The annual award is presented by the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association (MLBPAA) and is the only award in major league baseball that’s voted on by former players.

From each of the club’s 30 selections for the award, the overall winner will be announced on Nov. 8 in New York City. Last year’s winner was Yankees’ outfielder Brett Gardner.

This season, Story — who recently went deep in his first all-star appearance — is hitting .293 with 20 home runs and 68 RBIs in addition to flashing Gold Glove-caliber defense in the field.
