Colorado Springs police tased and arrested a former Clarion Hotel employee who allegedly sneaked into the office, tried to open a locked cash box and threw a fit when hotel employees objected.

Michael Len Barnes, 43, a former Clarion employee, allegedly entered the hotel at 300 W. Bijou St. at 2:50 a.m. through an employee entrance, according to a Colorado Springs police report.

Barnes allegedly went behind the counter of the hotel and attempted to open the locked cash box, the report says.

Hotel employees backed away and called police when Barnes began “yelling and acting erratically.”

Barnes, who is 6-feet-3 and weighs 200 pounds, has prior convictions for child abuse, domestic violence and drug offenses, according to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.

When police arrived, Barnes initially followed their orders, but he suddenly pulled away when the officers tried to handcuff him, the report says.

Officers used a Taser on Barnes and then were able to arrest him, the report says.

Barnes was booked into the El Paso County Jail, according to jail records.
