All lanes of Interstate 225 were shut down on an Aurora stretch of highway as police investigated a possible pipe bomb, which turned out to be a false alarm.
There is a full closure on I-225 between E. 6th Ave. and E. 17th Ave. Traffic is being diverted off the highway while police investigate a possible pipe bomb. PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THE AREA! We will update here as more information becomes available.— Aurora Police Dept (@AuroraPD)
The closure, from East 6th Avenue to East 17th Avenue, lasted just about two hours, from about 9 p.m. to 11 p.m., according to police.
The Adams County Bomb Squad aided the police investigation. Traffic was diverted off the highway and police had asked drivers to avoid the area if possible, before the highway was reopened.
Police did not say what the “suspicious device” turned out to be. They did say, however, that it was “not a bomb.”
