Denver will have ideal weather for turkey trot races and touch-football games on Thanksgiving Day, but in the mountains a heavy snow storm is building that will last through Saturday, forecasters say.

Temperatures will be 12 degrees above normal for Nov. 22 in Denver, with a high temperature of 61 degrees, according to the National Weather Service in Boulder.

Snow will begin to fall Thursday afternoon in the Rocky Mountains. Heavy snow is expected to fall the next three days, the NWS says.

Black Friday shoppers will not be impeded by bad weather in Denver where it will be mostly sunny, with a high temperature of 53 degrees. Afternoon wind gusts up to 37 mph are expected.

A storm could reach Denver after 11 a.m. on Saturday. There’s a 20 percent chance of showers. Strong winds up to 40 mph are possible, the NWS says. The low temperature Saturday night will fall to around 23 degrees in Denver.

It will be sunny again on Sunday and it will remain mostly sunny until Wednesday, the weather service says.
