A 65-year-old dump truck driver died Thursday in Commerce City when his truck backed off of a 20-foot embankment, flipping upside down and crushing the cab.

Rescue workers were called about 2:50 p.m. to East 80th Avenue and Brighton Boulevard, said Maria Carabajal, a South Adams County Fire Department spokeswoman.

Firefighters cut through the wreckage to free the driver, who was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not identified.

The incident, which happened in a gravel yard, remains under investigation.
