Denver weather: Warm in metro area as storm brews in the mountains

While Denver basks in warm temperatures Thursday the mountains will be preparing for yet another blast of winter, forecasters say.

The high temperature in Denver will be around 52 degrees, according to the National Weather Service in Boulder.

A winter storm warning will in effect from Thursday night through Saturday, the NWS says. At times, heavy snowfall is expected.

Denver could get rain Friday afternoon after 2 p.m. The rain will turn into snow later in the afternoon when the high temperature will climb to around 49 degrees, forecasters say.

The chance for snow increases Friday night when less than a half inch of new snow could accumulate.

The best chance for snow will be on Saturday after 11 a.m., the NWS says. It will be colder with a high temperature around 35 degrees. Snow is likely Saturday night.

It will continue snowing through Sunday morning until around 11 a.m. Very cold temperatures will prevail. The high temperature will only be around 16 degrees. The low Sunday night will be about 1 degree, the NWS says.
