Let the game set the pace

Re: “Don’t ban the shift, and don’t mess with 60 feet, 6 inches,” March 10 commentary

I just read Patrick Saunders article on an experiment that MLB is conducting with the Atlantic League and I’m outraged.
One of the things I keep hearing is how slow baseball is.

If people want a fast game, watch one with a time limit.

For people to say itap boring, they don’t understand the game. What about golf? Thatap boring and slow to me, but I would not ask for changes to that game.

I guess itap about instant gratification; people are in such a hurry these days. I can think of more ways to speed up the game, i.e., a time limit, fewer innings, and yes, metal bats. But then it would no longer be the game I grew up on and have loved since my father read box scores to me every night instead of bedtime stories.

My headstone will have a baseball home plate on it with the words, “There’s no place like home.”

Local control, local liablilty

The only good in the “proposed” (passage is a foregone conclusion) oil and gas legislation is local control.

Local decision should mean local-only liability for compensating owners and others for any takings committed by local governments exercising local control authority.

The people demanding their local government impose restrictions that exceed constitutional limits, and not Coloradans at large, need to be the taxpayers who make up school and other local government revenue and who pay judgments that result from the extent of regulation locally chosen.

A moving photo

Re: “Face of faith,” March 7 photo

Joe Amon’s photograph is stunning. Even displayed through the poor medium of newsprint, the technical mastery, artistry and humanity jump off the page. It shows me something new each time I look at it, and I look at it often. What an exemplar of the art of photography this picture is! I wish that I could experience the impact of seeing the original print. This masterful work belongs in a gallery. Brilliantly done, Mr. Amon.

In need of a dose of science

Re: “Parents might have harder time opting kids out of vaccines,” March 5 news story

I was appalled to read that “Governor Polis believes that forcing people to receive shots they don’t want creates mistrust of government …” Actually, medical decisions made by our elected officials that are based on false information rather than on sound science are what create mistrust of government.
