If you’ve always wanted to set a world record, you can go for the glory this weekend while enjoying the outdoors and benefiting public lands.

Saturday is National Trails Day, which the American Hiking Society is celebrating with several special events in Colorado. Some of them will be part of an organized effort to set a “Trail Service World Record” for most people working on trail improvement in a single day.

“The government shutdown earlier this year had a negative impact on public lands and the trails we love, so American Hiking Society is rallying the trails community for a record-setting day of trail service,” executive director Kate Van Waes said in a news release.

There is no actual world record for people involved in trail improvement. This is an effort by the American Hiking Society to establish one and raise awareness for the need to improve trails after the government shutdown.
