Denver area could get a pounding with rain falling at a rate of an inch per half hour Wednesday afternoon as a strong thunderstorm moves over the Front Range, according to National Weather Service forecasters.
Meteorologist predict 50 percent of Denver will have rain and thunderstorms, mainly after 2 p.m., NWS forecasters said.
The high temperature will be around 78 degrees, the NWS said.

Afternoon rain and thunderstorms are possible on Thursday, when the high temperature will be around 79 degrees.
It will be mostly sunny Friday morning, with a high temperature of around 83 degrees. The chance for rain increases Friday afternoon to 40 percent.
The pattern of afternoon thunderstorms and rain will continue through the weekend, when high temperatures will be around 81 degrees Saturday and 68 Sunday, the NWS said.
The first part of the next work week high temperatures will be in the lower 70s and there is a chance of afternoon rain and thunderstorms both Monday and Tuesday.
