Colorado weather: Severe thunderstorm watch issued for parts of Colorado, warning issued for area southwest of Denver

A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for swaths of Colorado, with the National Weather Service in Boulder saying that sections of the state could potentially see hail the size of tennis balls and tornadoes.

The watch, which is until 9 p.m., is for a region that stretches from Denver to Fort Collins to Fort Morgan.  Winds gusts could reach as much as 70 mph,

Just before 2 p.m. the National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for an area southwest of the metro area between Conifer and Castle Pines. The warning is in effect until 2:45 p.m.

The severe thunderstorm watch is also for parts of Nebraska and Wyoming, according to the NWS.
