Only 50 days after one of Colorado’s longest ski seasons at Arapahoe Basin, the unofficial countdown to next season starts this week when one of Denver’s two major late-summer ski and snowboard blowout sales begins Friday.

Thatap when Christy Sports kicks off itsevent at the Littleton store. Christy’s chief competitor, Epic Mountain Gear, will counter with beginning Aug. 30 at six Front Range locations. Both will offer deals on gear, season passes and multi-day lift ticket bundles.

The dueling events from Colorado’s dominant gear-sellers are the current iteration of a Colorado tradition dating back to 1954, when now-defunct Gart Bros. inaugurated Labor Day ski sales with SNIAGRAB (bargains spelled backwards). Skiers and riders would camp out on the sidewalk every year at Gartap Sports Castle on Broadway to get the best gear deals until the demise of Sports Authority in 2016.

The summer sales typically offer sweet deals on gear, much of it leftover inventory from the previous season, but you’ll also find ticket deals.

Powder Daze ticket deals will include $50 off the cost of Ikon season passes, six days of skiing at Copper Mountain for $249, three days at Steamboat for $159 and five days at Arapahoe Basin for $199. At Copper Mountain, you can get a five-day pack plus a lift ticket for a friend for $249.

Epic season passes will be sold at Ski Rex, as will Epic Day Passes,. Epic pass prices will increase after Labor Day.

Powder Daze events are already in progress in West Vail and Steamboat Springs, running at those stores through Aug. 25. The Denver Powder Daze runs through Sept. 3, and one in Dillon runs Friday through Sept. 2.

Ski Rex is Aug. 30 through Sept. 15 at six Front Range Epic Mountain Gear locations, including tent sales at stores in Aurora and Westminster. Epic Mountain Gear was known as Colorado Ski & Golf before re-branding in 2018.
