Team USA has a bit of Colorado flair at this year’s FIBA Basketball World Cup with Spurs guard Derrick White — a former Legend and CU Buffs star — and Nuggets center Mason Plumlee being named to the roster. Plumlee, who’s playing in his second FIBA World Cup, became the seventh active Nuggets player to play for Team USA. Here’s are others:
Forward Antonio McDyess — 2000 Olympics
The No. 2 overall pick in the 1995 NBA draft played in all eight games for the gold medal-winning squad, averaging 7.6 points and 5.9 rebounds. His best game was against France in the group round when he scored 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.
Center Raef LaFrentz — FIBA World Championship 2002
The former Kansas Jayhawks standout appeared in six games for Team USA< averaging 5.2 points and 3.0 rebounds as the team was eliminated in the quarterfinals.
Forward Carmelo Anthony — 2004 Olympics, FIBA World Championship 2006, 2008 Olympics
In 2004, the then-20-year-old played sparingly off the bench, averaging 2.4 points and 1.6 rebounds as the U.S. compiled a 5-3 record en route to a disappointing bronze medal. Two years later, he led the U.S. at the FIBA championships with 19.9 points as the Americans settled for third place. In 2008, he averaged 11.5 points and 4.3 rebounds as the U.S. won the gold. Anthony also played in the 2012 and 2016 Olympics, winning gold in both. He is the USA Basketball’s most decorated Olympian, leading the team in career scoring, rebounding and games.
Guard Chauncey Billups — FIBA 2010
The King of Park Hill was second on the team in scoring, averaging 9.8 points, and assists (3.1), leading Team USA to first place with a win over Turkey in the finals.
Guard Andre Iguodala — 2012 Olympics
Iguodala started the Olympics with Philadelphia but was traded to the Nuggets the day of the U.S.’ semifinal win over Argentina. USA would win gold over Spain two days later. He averaged 4.3 points and 2.8 rebounds in eight games.
Forward Kenneth Faried — FIBA World Cup 2014
Faried averaged 12.2 points and a team-leading 7.7 rebounds as the United States ran roughshod over the competition en route to the World Cup title.
Center Mason Plumlee — FIBA World Cup 2019
Plumlee also played on the 2014 team when he was with the Nets, averaging 2.3 points and 2.0 rebounds.
