High winds out of the southwest and low humidity will increase the fire danger in Colorado’s high country on Friday, forecasters said.
Wind gusts could reach 40 mph in the mountains, according to the National Weather Service in Boulder.
The relative humidity could drop to around 13 percent Friday, NWS meteorologist Russell Danielson said.
“That’s pretty darn dry,” Danielson said. “You wouldn’t want to burn today.”
People should take precautions including avoiding driving on dry grass or using heavy equipment on dry grass, which may spark fires, he said. Grilling on grassy areas could also ignite fires, he said.
“Take normal fire precautions. If you see a fire call that in immediately,” Danielson said.
Fire danger will increase today due to gusty southwest winds & low relative humidity. Just a slight chance for t-storms over far NE Colorado. If storms form, they could be strong/severe.
