Gateway couldn’t quite keep up with a strong Vista PEAK Prep squad, losing by a score of 42-21 on Friday, Sept. 20.
Vista PEAK Prep quarterback Victor Owens led the passing attack with 136 yards through the air, throwing one touchdown and one interception. Owens also added 55 yards and one touchdown on the ground. Ja’derris Carr-kersh was also Vista PEAK Prep’s leading receiver on the day.
Carr-kersh lead all Vista PEAK Prep rushers with 160 yards and three touchdowns in the contest, averaging 11.4 yards per carry. Carr-kersh also tacked on 83 receiving yards and one touchdown. Gene Sledge Jr added 100 yards on the ground, averaging 14.3 yards per carry.
Erick Covington powered Gateway’s passing attack with 129 yards through the air, throwing two touchdowns and two interception. Covington also added 132 yards and one touchdown on the ground. Tony Gallegos lead all Gateway receivers with five receptions for 74 yards and two scores.
Gateway’s ground attack was lead by Derek Hayes and his 91 yards on 15 carries.
Both teams will go on the road in their next contest, with Vista PEAK Prep heading to play Aurora Central and Gateway taking on Monarch.
