A hot, dry and windy day is expected Thursday in Denver, according to the National Weather Service.

The forecast calls for sunny skies and a high near 88 degrees with a low around 53 degrees. Winds throughout the day and evening are expected to get up to 10 mph.

Some cooldown is forecast for Friday, with showers and thunderstorms possible in the afternoon and evening. The high is expected in the low 70s, according to the National Weather Service.

The weather service’s hazardous outlook Thursday for northeast and north central Colorado cautions residents about elevated fire danger over the mountains, high valleys and northern foothills near the Wyoming border. Gusty winds up to 50 mph are expected. In the plains, dry and warmer conditions are likely, and some thunderstorms and showers could develop in the evening over the mountains.
