Admission to Rocky Mountain National Park will be free on Saturday, and you know what that means: There could be long lines to enter and vehicle restrictions.

“Visitors should plan ahead for significant visitation in the park that day,” said Kyle Patterson, the park’s public affairs officer.

Admission to all national parks will be free on Sept. 28 in observance of National Public Lands Day. To mark the occasion, the National Environmental Education Foundation is organizing volunteer projects on public lands across the country (not just national parks) that are expected to attract more than 100,000 volunteers. Several events are happening in Colorado, and .

One of the projects will take place at Rocky Mountain National Park, Patterson said, on the East Shore Trail near Lake Granby.

“Volunteers are absolutely vital to parks across the country,” Meri-Margaret Deoudes, NEEF president and CEO, saidin a news release. “National Public Lands Day connects people to nature through service. It is the perfect opportunity to care for our public lands while spending time with family and friends and taking advantage of all the benefits that come from spending time outdoors.”
