School buses stopped and residents sheltered in place for about an hour Monday afternoon in the area of Heather Ridge Apartments in Aurora after someone may have fired a weapon in the air, according to Aurora police.

Police said they took someone into custody at about 4:50 p.m. and expected roads would reopen and the shelter in place lifted shortly after, according to an Aurora police tweet.

All Cherry Creek School District bus routes suspended driving to stops near the 2300 block of South Vaughn Way until the situation was resolved.

Entrances to the apartment complex from East Iliff Avenue and South Vaughn Way were closed, police said. People were also asked to stay out of the area.

Officers were trying to negotiate with a person inside an apartment to come out and surrender, according to Aurora police.
