A semitrailer hauling a tanker caught on fire Thursday afternoon on Interstate 70 in Deer Trail, and the driver died in the incident, according to the State Patrol.

The interstate was closed in both directions, but only the westbound lanes remain closed as of 3:40 p.m., said Trooper Gary Cutler, a State Patrol spokesman.

No other vehicles were involved, Cutler said. Investigators are working to determine how the truck caught on fire.

It’s unclear when the westbound lanes will reopen. Drivers should avoid the area if possible.
