Denverites can start the new year off with sunny, mild weather on Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service in Boulder.
Meteorologists forecast partly sunny skies with a high of 53 degrees, according to the weather service.
Folks out enjoying the weather along the Front Range might experience some afternoon wind gusts but can expect a dry, mild week to kick off the beginning of 2020.
In the northeast and north central Colorado mountains, the weather service said winter travel in the high country could be hazardous with blowing snow heading south of the Interstate 70 corridor by the afternoon. Snow could fall at 1 to 1.5 inches per hour accumulating to possibly 7 to 12 inches of new snowfall by tonight, meteorologists predicted.
Hazardous winter travel conditions are likely to continue across the northern Colorado mountains on Thursday, with snowy roads and blowing powder proving treacherous for commuters.
2020 will ring in with snow, gusty winds, and hazardous winter travel across the mountains. Worst travel conditions are expected from ~11 AM this morning thru mid evening. Perhaps a small break around mid to late afternoon. Mostly dry plains.
