A small plane crashed on state prison property in Canon City Sunday afternoon, and authorities were mum on what happened.

Colorado Department of Corrections officials have not confirmed who was on the plane and whether there were fatalities or injuries, agency spokeswoman Annie Skinner said Sunday evening.

State officials learned of the crash at 1:58 p.m., Skinner said. National Transportation Safety Board investigators were notified.

“We have secured the scene and the NTSB is on the way,” Skinner said.

Colorado Department of Corrections officials were responding to the crash with help from the Fremont County sheriff.

Journalists were not allowed access to the scene of the crash and officials said they would not make information available Sunday.
