A Baca County sheriff’s deputy shot and killed a man Wednesday evening after he reportedly aimed a gun at them, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation said.
The shooting happened after the deputy responded to a report of an armed man just after 5:30 p.m. at a residence near County Road 20 and County Road PP, according to a CBI news release. A caller said he was making threats.
A sheriff’s deputy spent three hours negotiating with 31-year-old Christopher Lawson before he pointed his firearm at officers, the news release said. Lawson was shot. Law enforcement treated him for his injuries but he died on scene.
No deputies were injured, the news release said. The Baca County sheriff’s deputy who shot Lawson has not been identified.
