A 3-year-old boy in Northglenn got a hold of a gun Saturday and unintentionally shot himself in the foot, according to Northglenn police.

The incident happened at about 7:20 p.m. in the 1000 block of Elmer Drive. The boy was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, spokeswoman Renae Lehr said.

Police are investigating how the boy got the gun.
