
Smoky skies and near-record heat is in the Denver forecast Tuesday.
Denver tied a record-high temperature on Monday, for the date of Aug. 24, when the temperature hit 98 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. That tied the 98-degree record for the city set in 2011.
On Tuesday, there will be areas of smoke, with mostly sunny skies, as the high temperature climbs to 98 degrees, according to the weather service forecast. The record temperature in Denver on Aug. 25 is 99 degrees set in 2011.
The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment has again issued air quality alerts for Denver and along the Front Range on Tuesday because of smoke from wildfires burning in the state and elsewhere in the West.
Near-record heat will continue Tuesday on the Eastern Plains fueled, in part, by dry and hazy conditions, according to the weather service.
On Wednesday in Denver, there’s a 30% chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms. There will be areas of smoke early in the morning, before 7 a.m., and the smoke will return after 1 p.m. as the high temperature tops out at about 95 degrees. Winds could gust to 17 mph.
Denver’s weather forecast on Thursday includes a 20% chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms with a high temperature of 95 degrees, the weather service said.
On Friday, Denver’s streak of 90-degree days is expected to end as a cold front dips into northern Colorado. Seasonal temperatures, in the mid- to upper-80s, and a chance of showers are expected through the weekend.
Skies over Denver will be partly cloudy on Friday, with a chance of showers and thunderstorms, and a high temperature of 86 degrees.
