With Nolan Arenado officially a member of the Cardinals following this week’s trade, here’s a look back at the all-star third baseman’s top five moments in purple pinstripes.

5. The Snow Homer

May 9, 2019

It was a near-blizzard in the first inning of Colorado’s win over San Francisco at Coors Field, but Arenado was locked in. With white stuff coming down all around, Arenado blasted a two-run homer 402 feet to left-center off Derek Holland.

4. The Willie Mays Catch

Aug. 1, 2020

Reminiscent of “The Tarp Catch”, Arenado made a dazzling grab against the Padres in Denver. En route to an eighth straight Gold Glove Award, in just 6.3 seconds deep into left-field foul territory to make an over-the-shoulder catch.

3. Charging The Mound

April 11, 2018

Arenado was none too pleased when Padres right-hander Luis Perdomo threw a fastball inside at the third baseman in Denver. Arenado promptly charged to the mound, swinging furiously at Perdomo, who backpedaled and threw his glove as the benches cleared.

2. The Tarp Catch

April 14, 2014

In his second season, Arenado made what’s since become his signature play. On a foul pop-up in San Francisco, Arenado sprinted backwards, through the on-field bullpen and caught the ball over his shoulder immediately before slamming into the rolled-up tarp.

1. Father’s Day Cycle

June 18, 2017

Does it get any more iconic that this? On Father’s Day, Arenado hit for the cycle against the Giants. The feat was capped by Arenado’s walk-off, three-run homer off Giants closer (and Colorado native) Mark Melancon. Arenado’s forehead was cut in the ensuing celebration as he roared toward the crowd, giving LoDo a moment like never before.
