Denver District Attorney
Donovan Bartlett

The crash happened about 7:30 p.m. Feb. 12 at the intersection of West Evans Avenue and South Zuni Street, the affidavit said. The passenger died at the scene. Two other people in the van suffered serious injuries.

Bartlett, who was driving a Dodge pickup, is suspected of driving under the influence. He failed sobriety tests at the scene and was arrested. Bartlett, according to the affidavit, consented to a blood draw as part of the investigation. He was taken to Denver Health, where he refused the blood draw and asked for a lawyer.

Police requested and received a warrant for a blood draw, according to the affidavit, which was carried out about 11 p.m., with two additional draws to follow. Bartlett’s next court date is scheduled for March 2.
