An Adams County sheriff’s deputy was taken to a hospital Saturday afternoon after he crashed his car on Interstate 70 while chasing burglary suspects.

The crash has blocked left lanes on eastbound I-70 ahead of the Central Park Boulevard exit. Drivers should expect delays, the Colorado Department of Transportation said in a tweet.

The deputy’s injuries were from broken glass and he was taken to the hospital as a precaution, Adams County sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Adam Sherman said.

Deputies responded to a burglary in progress at 1:14 p.m. at a Super 8 motel in the 5800 block of Broadway and pursued the suspects, who were driving away from the motel in a pickup truck, Sherman said. The pursuit started on 58th Avenue and then went onto Interstate 25, Interstate 70, Brighton Boulevard and back onto Interstate 70 before the crash happened near the Havana Street exit, he said.

The chase lasted about 10 minutes. It did not violate the Adams County Sheriff’s Office pursuit policy, Sherman said.
