Player attendance

Did not practice: Active/PUP — CB Duke Dawson (knee) and CB Essang Bassey (knee). Active roster — WR Tim Patrick (groin), RB Mike Boone (quad), RB Melvin Gordon (groin), OLB Von Miller (personal), S Trey Marshall (ankle) and OLB Andre Mintze (concussion).

Returned to practice: CB Ronald Darby (illness) and S Caden Sterns (hip).

New injury: CB Pat Surtain II left practice after 1-on-1 drills against the receivers. “He had a little soreness in a lower extremity,” coach Vic Fangio said. “He could have kept going, I just told (athletic trainer) Vince (Garcia) to keep him out.”

Top play

During 1-on-1 drills, QB Drew Lock lofted a perfect pass down the right sideline that WR Jerry Jeudy caught after getting a step on CB Pat Surtain II.

Thumbs up

Starters playing Saturday. A majority of the healthy starters didn’t play against Minnesota, but will Saturday at Seattle. “We’re going to play a lot of the guys this week based on health,” Fangio said.

Pass rush. The defense had their way with the offense during drives to end the first and second halves of practice.

Thumbs down

Dropped passes. In 7-on-7 drills alone, WR Courtland Sutton and RB Damerea Crockett dropped one pass apiece and TE Noah Fant had two drops.

End-of-half drill. Starting at midfield with 52 seconds remaining, QB Teddy Bridgewater ended with three consecutive incompletions to force K Brandon McManus’ 52-yard field goal.

End-of-game drill. Starting at his 32-yard line, QB Drew Lock had nine snaps, but could not reach the red zone to end practice.

Roster moves

Before practice, the Broncos reduced their roster to the NFL-mandated 85 players by waiving CB Rojesterman Farris, DT Lorenzo Neal and ILB Peter Kalambayi and waiving injured players LeVante Bellamy (RB), DeVontres Dukes (WR) and Deyon Sizer (DT).

Dukes (lower body) was injured last Thursday and Bellamy (ankle) in the Vikings game. Sizer (hamstring) hadn’t practiced since Aug. 3.

The Broncos signed RB Adrian Killins (5-foot-8/177 pounds), who was released by Philadelphia last Saturday. “Bellamy’s injury was going to be an extended period of time and we lost (Mike) Boone and Melvin (Gordon) is nursing a groin so we needed some guys,”  Fangio said. “He’s fast and quick. Watch out, he’s as fast as a hiccup.”

Odds and ends

*The Broncos’ offense ran 62 plays of 11-on-11 and 23 plays of 7-on-7.

*The Broncos’ first training camp practice in five days was a sleepy exercise with very little tempo. “We have to focus,” Fangio said. “We come back to try and do a normal training camp-type practice and we have to be locked in better. We have to catch it better, throw the ball better — all of that.”

*Will WR Courtland Sutton (knee) play against Seattle? “Possibly, but not guaranteed,” Fangio said.

*Fangio said TE Albert Okwuegbunam (knee) is “close” playing in a game. “He’s done great with his rehab,” Fangio said. “We’ll consult with the medical people. We definitely want to get him playing before the first game (on Sept. 12).”

*11 vs. 11 highlights: First period — The Broncos had three passes out of 12 snaps. … Second period — CB Michael Ojemudia took over the dime duties from CB Pat Surtain II. OLB Jonathon Cooper went right around LT Calvin Anderson for the “sack” of QB Drew Lock. To end the “half,” QB Teddy Bridgewater completed passes to Sutton and Okwuegbunam, but finished with three consecutive incompletions from the opponentap 35-yard line. … Third period — Both quarterbacks went 2-of-2 passing and the drill included eight rushes. … Fourth period — Bridgewater’s spike throw to end the play hit OLB Pita Taumoepenu in the groin. Taumoepenu took a moment to gather himself before walking off the field. Lock’s drive started with a sack and ended with a pass break-up by S P.J. Locke. … Fifth period — Down seven points with 2:10 remaining and one timeout, Lock was sacked or had to scramble three times, but threw 25-plus yards to TE Noah Fant on fourth-and-3. The drive ended after a fourth-down catch by RB Damerea Crockett.

*During Lock’s final drive, Netane Muti played LG for Dalton Risner and Quinn Meinerz played RG for Graham Glasgow.

*Rookie LB Baron Browning practiced for the second consecutive day after passing his physical. “I feel fine,” he said. “Itap knocking off that rust. I asked Coach Vic during one of the water breaks if he had any WD-40 so I could grease my body back up.”

*Browning said his leg injury was “definitely frustrating,” because he expected to return far sooner. “But I stayed in the moment and where my feet were at and attacked the rehab. … I was in the meetings, but no matter if you’re in the meetings for three months (or not), itap not the same as being out there. I just need reps.”

*Browning said he hasn’t been told if he will play in either of the final two preseason games (Saturday at Seattle and Aug. 28 vs. the Los Angeles Rams). “I’m just trying to get back into the groove of things,” he said. “I’m eager (to play), but I’m trying not to get ahead of myself.”
