A man was shot dead Thursday afternoon by a Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputy when the suspect pulled a gun, authorities said.

The shooting happened at about noon on the eastbound off ramp from Interstate 76 onto Sheridan Boulevard, said Karlyn Tilley, a sheriff’s spokeswoman.

Dispatchers received phone calls about a man standing next to a motorcycle who was waving a gun, Tilley said. As a deputy approached the suspect  “he pulled a gun from his waistband and shots were fired.”

The suspect died on scene and the deputy was not injured, Tilley said. The motorcycle at the scene was reported stolen in Westminster in February. An investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
