Denver Pioneers senior Brett Stapley was named the Hockey Commissioners’ Association’s national player of the month for December on Wednesday.
The 22-year-old forward tallied nine points (five goals and four assists) in five games for DU last month, including netting a career-high three goals in a 6-2 road win over Arizona State on Dec. 3. On the season, he has recorded 22 points (eight goals, 14 assists) — second only to junior forward Bobby Brink (26) for the Pioneers.
Stapley is the first DU player to receive the national monthly honor since forward Troy Terry for March/April 2018.
It’s not the only award he received this week. On Tuesday, he was named the NCHC player of the month. Freshman Carter Mazur was named the NCHC rookie of the month.
Denver (12-5-1) will next play on Jan. 14-15 when it hosts St. Cloud State for a two-game series.
