Denver weather: Freeze breaks Friday, bringing sun for the weekend

Denver is finally putting a cold week of snow in the rearview as temperatures rise above freezing on Friday and begin to melt some snow.

According to the National Weather Service in Boulder, Denver will reach 39 degrees under sunny skies Friday. The overnight low will drop to 7 degrees with wind chill values below zero.

Roads could once again be slick this morning due to the cold temperatures and then again in the evening as some of the melted snow refreezes as the low dips to 16 degrees. Winds will pick up in the mountains overnight; gusts could reach 50 mph.

Those winds will impact Denver on Saturday as gusts could get over 20 mph. The high will reach a sunny 47 degrees. The low will again plummet to 18 degrees.

Temperatures will near 40 degrees on Sunday.

There will be a slight chance of snow showers in the mountains Saturday night and Sunday. Then another chance of snow and cooler temperatures next Wednesday, mainly over the hills.
