The Denver District Attorney’s Office on Wednesday charged a 38-year-old man with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with a 2020 killing on Denver’s Auraria Campus.
Gregory Stapleton, who remained at large until last month, was also charged with one count of aggravated robbery, the DA’s office said in a news release.
On Sept. 8, 2020, witnesses told authorities that they saw two men arguing about one of the men cutting in line to get a pair of free socks near the Auraria Higher Education Center, 1155 St. Francis Way, prosecutors said.
When police arrived, they found 36-year-old Richard Ford suffering from blunt force injury to his torso. He later died at the hospital.
Stapleton is set to appear in court March 4.
