Several cars of a BNSF Railway train derailed from their tracks Saturday morning and fell into the South Platte River, blocking a riverside trail.
Denver police received a call about the derailed train about 7:30 a.m. Saturday, police spokesman Jay Casillas said. No injuries were reported, and police blocked off the area.

The train derailment blocked the South Platte River Trail near Park Avenue West, Denver Parks and Recreation spokeswoman Cyndi Karvaski said. There’s no estimated reopening date of the trail, she said.
BNSF Railway did not respond Saturday to a request for information. In a statement to KMGH-TV, BNSF Railway officials said the derailment happened after the freight train left the rail facility. Seven empty lumber cars derailed, and three of those cars fell into the river.
The railway company is investigating the cause of the derailment.
This is the second incident involving BNSF Railway this week. A BNSF employee died Wednesday after being struck by a train in the area of 3700 N. Globeville Road.
