Denver Pioneers right wing Bobby Brink was named the National Player of the Month by the Hockey Commissioners’ Association on Thursday.
The 5-foot-9, 166-pound junior tallied five goals and 10 assists in eight games, leading DU to a 5-3-0 record last month. On the season, he is the NCAA’s top scorer with 50 points (13 goals and 37 assists). He also leads the nation in assists and points per game (1.56).
Brink is the second Pioneers player to earn national monthly honors this season, joining senior Brett Stapley, who was recognized in December.
DU, ranked No. 3 in the country, will finish its regular-season schedule this weekend with a home-and-away series against Colorado College. The Tigers host at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Colorado Springs and the season wraps up at 7 p.m. Saturday at Magness Arena.
The Pioneers (23-8-1) held on to the Gold Pan earlier this season by sweeping a two-game set with Colorado College by a combined score of 9-0. The sweep was part of an 11-game unbeaten streak that came to an end with a 3-2 loss at Minnesota-Duluth on Feb. 12.
The Pios are 2-3-0 in their last five games, including a split at Omaha last weekend, and are in second place behind North Dakota in the NCHC standings. DU is locked in to one of the four spots in the NCHC Frozen Faceoff on March 18-19 at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn.
