Officers in Thornton were negotiating with an armed man on Thursday evening when the man shot himself, police said.

The incident unfolded in the area of East 120th Avenue and Monaco Street, police said in a 5:05 p.m. tweet.
There was a large presence of officers at the scene and police were talking with the man, who was described as being “uncooperative,” according to police.
At this time there are no injuries to the male that negotiators are talking to and no injuries to police.

A code red, shelter in place, notice was given to the surrounding area and the immediate stretch of 120th Avenue was shut down.
The man was taken to a local hospital, police said on Twitter at 6:42 p.m. An investigation is ongoing.
