A 26-year-old man was sentenced to 30 years in prison last week after pleading guilty to the second-degree murder of his cousin in Arvada nearly two years ago.

Isiah Alexander Bennett was sentenced Friday for the murder of 26-year-old Raymond Jutting on June 27, 2020.

Prosecutors said Jutting arrived at a home on Marshall Street in Arvada, where he and Bennett, who was inside, argued over what police previously called “an apparent long-standing issue” through an open window.

Bennett fired multiple shots at Jutting, killing him, the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office said.

Bennett claimed he shot Jutting in self-defense. But Deputy District Attorney Megan Bibliowicz said  Bennett shot Jutting nine times, mostly in his back, and that Jutting was wearing a cast on his arm and was not near Bennett at the time of the shooting.

“This was an execution, not self-defense,” Bibliowicz said in a news release.
