Six people were injured, including two Denver police officers, after authorities initiated a chase Monday evening on Interstate 225 near Colfax Avenue.
One person, the driver, suffered what police called self-inflicted gunshot wounds, said Matthew Longshore, an Aurora police spokesman, during an evening news briefing. That individual, who was not identified, is in critical condition. Injuries for the other five individuals are not considered serious.
No officers fired their weapons, Longshore said.
Denver police initiated the chase after identifying the car through investigation into a shooting earlier in the day, Longshore said.
The Critical Incident Response Team will be investigating the incident, Aurora police said.
UPDATE: Preliminary info is that was involved in a pursuit just before the crash. A DPD car also crashed, resulting in 2 officers being injured.
A total of 5 people transported to the hospital.
Expect the highway to be closed for multiple hours.
