East Colfax Avenue shooting sends two juveniles to hospital

A Wednesday shooting on East Colfax Avenue led to two juveniles’ hospitalizations, the Denver Police Department reported.

The extent of their injuries was not released. Colfax was closed between York Street and Columbine Street, according to a published around 4:30 p.m. However, roadways are opening to allow traffic flow in the area, as of 6:14 p.m.

Officers responded to the 2400 block of East Colfax Avenue, near the Carla Madison Recreation Center and outside of East High School. A witness told Denver7 that before shots were fired. No arrests in the case have been made.

A letter from East High principal Terita Walker was sent to families later Wednesday detailing DPS security’s response to the incident and that “a controlled release” was used to reunite students with their parents.
