No one was injured in a fire at a Littleton apartment building Friday morning, though two had to be rescued by firefighters.

South Metro Fire Rescue responded to a fire at 5519 S. Windemere St. at about 8:40 a.m. Friday and reported “heavy smoke” on the first floor of the three-story building. All residents were evacuated, including two who needed assistance.

The fire was out by about 10 a.m., and fire crews said they were working with the City of Littleton and the building owner to determine when residents of the 24 apartments could safely return.
