Two Suncor employees were transported to a hospital with burns after a fire broke out at the Adams County oil refinery.

The fire started about 11 a.m. because of some kind of vapor release and was put out quickly, said South Adams County Fire Department Chief Kevin Vincel.

The severity of the employees’ injuries is unclear, Vincel said.

Suncor announced in an at 11:27 a.m. Saturday that refinery personnel are “responding to an incident.”

“While you may have heard an alarm or may see smoke, no immediate action is needed,” Suncor officials said.

Company officials could not immediately be reached Saturday.

The incident comes a day after state regulators said Suncor had spewed harmful pollutants into the atmosphere Wednesday night after extreme cold triggered a shutdown across the Commerce City plant’s operations.

State officials are assessing the potential public health risks.
