Colorado transportation officials closed Interstate 70 in several locations Wednesday night as a snowstorm hit Denver and the mountains.
The Colorado Department of Transportation closed westbound lanes of Interstate 70 Wednesday night at C-470 in Jefferson County and between Copper Mountain and Vail. Eastbound lanes were closed at Silverthorne, Avon and Dotsero.
Officials warned against using Highway 91 as a detour around the I-70 closures.
The Department of Transporation closed several other highways were also closed due to weather:
- U.S. 6 in Clear Creek Canyon
- U.S. 40 eastbound over Berthoud Pass
- U.S. 24 eastbound over Battle Mountain
- Colorado 119 northbound between U.S. 6 and Black Hawk
Colorado State Patrol in Golden warned that stuck vehicles were blocking the road on I-70 at Floyd Hill and Mount Vernon Canyon; on U.S. 6 in Clear Creek Canyon; on Colorado 119 between Denver and Blackhawk; on U.S. 285 between Morrison and Pine Junction.
“Delay your travels,” the State Patrol said in a tweet.
The National Weather Service in Boulder predicted between 4 and 6 inches of snowfall in Denver through Thursday morning. The mountains around Vail could get between 6 and 8 inches and the foothills could receive 6 and 8 inches.

The Department of Transportation warned that the snow would impact the Thursday morning commute along Interstate 25.
