A man who allegedly struck and ran over another man, killing him, was arrested Thursday by investigators with the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office.

Erick Mejia, 31, was apprehended under suspicion of vehicular homicide for the Wednesday incident, in which a 55-year-old man was found dead next to his van at 1 Digicomm Drive in unincorporated Arapahoe County.

Investigators say the victim’s van was parked next to Mejia’s truck and that “when Mejia started to drive forward and leave the scene, he struck the victim and his van causing fatal injuries,” according to a news release.

Deputies began CPR until South Metro Fire Rescue arrived, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office on Tuesday identified the victim as Guillermo Duran-Mejia. The coroner’s release stated the manner of death is homicide.

Deputies tracked Mejia’s truck as it headed south on Interstate 25 and Fountain police officers stopped Mejia south of Colorado Springs and detained him. He was taken to the Fountain Police Department for questioning and was subsequently arrested by Arapahoe County authorities.

Mejia is being held at the Arapahoe County Detention Facility in lieu of a $100,000 bond and may face a felony charge of vehicular homicide.
