Police are investigating a double shooting in Aurora that left one man dead and one in critical condition. Shots fired into a nearby home, just blocks away, are connected to the double shooting, police said.

At about 10:55 p.m. Monday, officers responded to 1670 S. Chambers Road on a 911 call for shots fired, the said on Twitter. Police later went to a second shooting scene in the 1600 block of South Idalia Circle. The scenes are just a few blocks apart.

At the first scene on Chambers, a business strip near the Willow Park neighborhood, officers found two men inside a vehicle who had been shot, . One died at the scene, the other was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

The man who died was identified Wednesday by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office as 30-year-old Joaquin Eliseo Orellana Orellana. His manner of death has been ruled a homicide.

At 9 a.m. Tuesday police received information about an apartment on Idalia where multiple shots were fired into a front door and front window. Officers did a “safety sweep” of the residence and area and didn’t find any victims.

Evidence recovered at both scenes leads investigators to believe that the two incidents are connected.

“No suspect or suspect vehicle information is immediately available,” police said. The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information on the incidents, or on a suspect, is asked to call Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867 (STOP).
