Blair Hubbard will not return as Broomfield’s football coach next season — this after a months-long investigation by the Boulder Valley School District.
Hubbard, who led the Eagles to a Class 4A state title in the fall, was put on administrative leave Dec. 15 pending an unnamed investigation. He was then cleared of criminal wrongdoing regarding “accusations of inappropriate behavior involving several Broomfield High School students” in January.
The school sent out an email regarding the decision Monday.
“We want to acknowledge the challenges and frustrations that have been felt by many of you during this process,” an email signed by principal Ginger Ramsey and athletic director Steve Shelton read. “While we regret that this process was lengthy, it is important to have a complete and adequate investigation into allegations that could have serious consequences for students and employees. Mr. Shelton and I received the final investigation report on Thursday, and have worked with the District since that time to determine next steps.
Coach Hubbard will not return to his coaching and teaching positions at Broomfield High School.”

Barber clarified that Hubbard was “on paid administrative leave from the beginning of the investigation until today, when his employment (with) BVSD ended. He never returned to school” during the investigation.
Barber also said BVSD “completed an investigation that included interviews of 53 witnesses. We shared the report with the employee last week, and accepted the employee’s resignation today (Monday).
The employee has the full investigation report, but BVSD does not believe it is a public record that BVSD can share.”
As for a new football coach at Broomfield, Shelton said the job will be posted soon and the school will conduct a thorough search.
“Even though some people would say the timing feels bad, from my perspective as an AD, the timing is actually pretty good to be looking for a coach because I have some teaching positions I can potentially attach to the job in a variety of content areas,” he said.
Per the email sent to parents, the main point of contact for the football program until a new head coach is hired is Jimmy Zechmann, who was an assistant under Hubbard and is also the school’s wrestling coach.
“Coach Zechmann will be your main point of contact,” the email stated. “He is responsible for the day to day operations of the football program and he is an in-building teacher/coach. Mr. Zechmann is handling all recruiting contacts as well as helping to organize spring training opportunities.”
Hubbard did not immediately return a call and voice message seeking comment.
