Colorado Front Range residents face sunny blue skies with temperatures in the 70s Tuesday morning and possible scattered thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening that could bring bursts of heavy rain.
The high temperature in Denver is expected to be 76 degrees, increasing to 78 degrees Wednesday.
National Weather Service meteorologists anticipated more rain later this week, leading to possible flooding Thursday in mountain foothills where fires have reduced vegetation. The weather service on Tuesday morning warned of a flash flooding threat Thursday in the burn scars left in 2020 by the Cameron Peak, East Troublesome and Williams Fork fires northwest of metro Denver.
On Tuesday afternoon, rain and thunderstorms may intensify over the plains east of Denver with wind gusting at speeds up to 40 miles per hour, and hail is possible, forecasters said. Later this week, storms are expected to broaden as a cold front moves in Wednesday afternoon, hitting wider areas on the plains. Turbulent weather is expected in the mountains at the end of the week.
Scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms are expected with brief heavy rain. There will be an increase threat for flash flooding on Thursday with increasing moisture and chances for heavy rain.
