You’ve seen him take the red pill and discover the Matrix and gracefully gun down his opposition as John Wick, but this August, audiences will see Keanu Reeves rocking the bass off-screen with his band Dogstar in Denver, Boulder and Aspen.
Los Angeles-based trio Dogstar — fronted by vocalist and guitarist Bret Domrose, with Reeves and drummer Rob Mailhouse — hadn’t played a show together since a series of gigs in Japan in 2002, following the 2000 release of their sophomore album “Happy Ending.”
After a pandemic-induced reconciliation, their Somewhere Between the Power Lines and Palm Trees tour, celebrating the release of their album of the same name, will make its way to Denver Aug. 17 at the Marquis Theater, Aug. 18 at Boulder’s Fox Theatre, and Aug. 19 at Belly Up Aspen.
Dogstar has already returned to the stage this year, debuting its new single “Everything Turns Around” live at the BottleRock Napa Valley music festival in May. The single is a more upbeat rock anthem, begrudgingly described by the band in as “fun.” Itap a departure from its late ’90s sound, which was darker and grungier, certainly marking the beginning of a new era for the band.
“Somewhere Between the Power Lines and the Palm Trees” is slated for release on Oct. 6 through Dogstar’s own label, Dillon Street Records. All three shows are sold out, but resale tickets to the Denver show are available through . Many of the remaining dates on the tour still have tickets available.
