It’s the latest injury this season for Rodón, who missed the first three months with forearm and back ailments. The 30-year-old has , pitching to a 1-4 record and 7.33 ERA in six starts.

Rodón is in the first season of a six-year, $162 million contract with the Yankees. He made the All-Star team and finished within the top six in Cy Young Award voting in his previous two seasons with the White Sox and Giants, respectively.

Following Sunday’s early exit, Rodón expressed hope he would avoid the injured list, saying, “In this moment, I feel pretty confident that I should be able to pitch.”

Rodón’s injury creates another vacancy in a Yankees starting staff that likely lost Domingo Germán for the season as he attends inpatient treatment for alcohol abuse. The team has also been without Frankie Montas all season after he underwent shoulder surgery in February.

They recalled left-handed reliever Nick Ramirez from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre as well.

The Yankees also designated former for assignment. Garcia, 24, recorded a 5.67 ERA at Triple-A this season, primarily pitching out of the bullpen.
