Colorado is about to get its first taste of winter as a cold front Wednesday night starts a round of snow and cold temperatures.
The mountains, mainly northern ones, will get the first big snow event starting Wednesday night through Thursday night, with up to 14 inches of snow expected in some areas. A winter weather advisory is in effect from Wednesday evening to Friday morning.

In Denver, the first freeze is likely incoming, as temperatures Friday night are expected to drop to 31 degrees.
The cold front will move into the state Wednesday evening, bringing cooler temperatures and the first round of precipitation.
In the mountains, snow will begin in higher elevations of about 10,000 feet, then shift down a couple thousand feet.
Thursday is expected to have more accumulation, especially on roads, as temperatures cool even more.
Over the two days, the National Weather Service in Boulder advised drivers to prepare for winter weather, as places like the Eisenhower Tunnel on Interstate 70 could get up to 10 inches of snow, and Cameron Pass on Colorado 14 could get up to 16 inches of snow.

Locally in Denver, temperatures will drop overnight Wednesday, from a high of 77 to a high Thursday of 57 degrees.
Rain chances increase overnight as well. There is a 30% chance of showers Wednesday night, then a 40% chance throughout the day Thursday.
Thursday night, as temperatures drop down to a low of 39 degrees, there is even a slight chance of some snow showers.
Friday will be sunny with a high of 55 degrees, then the first freeze is expected Friday night as temperatures could get as low as 31 degrees.
Saturday will then begin a warmup back to the 60s through the weekend, and highs in the 70s are back next week.
