Halle Mackiewicz, the former Legacy basketball standout and Real Colorado soccer player, was drafted by the Kansas City Current of the National Women’s Soccer League over the weekend.

Mackiewicz was a star club goalkeeper while starting four years on the Lightning girls basketball team, totaling 1,133 points and 443 rebounds in 72 games played. Soccer was always her main passion, though, and itap why the 2020 grad went to the University of Clemson, where she was named the Atlantic Coast Conference goalkeeper of the year this past November.

Last Friday, the 22-year-old said she was with her parents and college GK coach, watching the NWSL Draft on TV, when she got the call from the Current. She was the first netminder off the board, going in the early third round to the Patrick Mahomes co-owned franchise.

“The whole experience was unreal,” Mackiewicz said. “The feeling of disbelief that it was my name on the TV is something I’ve never felt before. … Being with my parents and getting to experience that with them was unforgettable and I’m so grateful to have this opportunity in front of me.”

Brendan Ploen, a former Colorado Rapids and soccer reporter for the Denver Post, wrote on social media that a Coloradoan has now been drafted in every year of the NWSL Draftap existence, dating back to 2013.

Cori Dyke, who attended Valor Christian, was drafted in the second round out of Penn State. With the Nittany Lions in 2023, she he was named the Big Ten defensive player of the year.
